Slebech Estate Fishery

Eastern Cleddau River – Pembrokeshire

Sea trout, salmon and wild brown trout can be caught on this famous and prolific fishery, which is under our management.

This private Estate Fishery extends to approximately 1¼ miles of mainly double-bank fishing on this beautiful and unspoilt river, situated at the top of the tide. The lower part of the Fishery is tidal, although many miles from the sea at Milford Sound.

The Slebech Estate Fishery gives the angler the opportunity to fish for fresh run salmon and sea trout from May to September. Brown trout fishing is best in April/May.

Night / day permits are available, but are limited to prevent over-fishing and to enhance the angler’s enjoyment of this most beautiful stretch of river. The Fishery is carefully managed and strictly bailiffed, and we are able to offer a full and professional guiding service, particularly for those who are new to fly-fishing for sea trout at night.

The Eastern Cleddau is predominantly a sea trout river, but it does have a sizeable run of salmon. There is also a natural population of brown trout. Sea trout fishing does not really start until late May when the larger sea trout – fish between 3lb and 10lb – enter the river system. The peak sea trout months are June, July and August. Although there are often plenty of sea trout in the river during September, they are beginning to become ‘stale’.

The odd spring salmon is caught in April and May, and a few summer salmon and grilse during June and July; salmon fishing is at its best during September and October.

During June, July and August sea bass are caught on the tidal stretch of the Estate Fishery, many on the fly, which adds to the variety of sport on this prolific West Wales river.

FISHERY GUIDELINES:

The Fishery is predominantly fly only, although spinning is allowed in high and coloured water.

In the peak sea trout months, when night fishing prevails, Anglers are asked not to fish until dark, unless, of course, the river is in flood when daytime fishing is acceptable.

Fishermen are encouraged to return fish, but, provided they are within the size limits and not gravid, Environment Agency bag limits apply.

Bass fishing is limited to Estate Land downstream of Black Pool Mill. (Please enquire for details.)

PERMITS & OPTIONAL GUIDING CHARGES:

Individual permits are available on this Fishery throughout the season, but it is advisable to book in advance, particularly during peak periods, as rods are severely restricted in order to prevent over-fishing.

Permit Charges:

8pm to 8am (Night Permit) £50.00
8am to 8am (24 hour Permit) £60.00
Separate Bass Fishing Permit £10.00 per period

Guiding Charges:

This includes a pre-arranged meeting time at Black Pool Mill, inspection of the Fishery, discussion on tackle and tactics, fly selection (including a complimentary selection of flies for the Fishery), provision of use of the Fishery Hut during the night, and guiding the client until approximately 2am £85.00.

The maximum number of Anglers per guide is 2, and the charge for a guide for 2 anglers is £130.00.

If you require a guide beyond 2am the rates are negotiable.
